What is the AVoHC Rapid Responder Program?

The African Volunteer Health Corps (AVoHC) was created to provide Africa CDC with a skilled, flexible, and rapid-response workforce to be deployed during disease outbreaks, epidemics, and other health crises.

Volunteers come from all corners of Africa and bring diverse expertise in:

  • Epidemiology
  • Risk Communication & Community Engagement (RCCE)
  • Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)
  • Public Health Management
  • Laboratory Science
  • Mental Health & Psychosocial Support
  • Health Diplomacy & Social Sciences

Featured Position: Risk Communication & Community Engagement (RCCE) Expert

Among the 950 available positions, 200 are reserved for RCCE experts. This role is crucial during health emergencies, ensuring that communities receive accurate information, trust public health messages, and adopt protective measures.

Purpose of the Role

  • Support ministries of health, Africa CDC, and other stakeholders in designing and implementing risk communication strategies.
  • Engage with communities, build trust, and strengthen preparedness and response systems.
  • Ensure that vulnerable populations are not left behind during outbreaks.

Eligibility & Requirements

Academic Qualifications

  • Essential:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Communication, Social Sciences, Anthropology, or related discipline with 5 years’ experience.
    • OR a Master’s degree in the same fields with 2 years’ experience.
  • Desirable:
    • Advanced university degree in Public Health, Statistics, Communication, or related disciplines.

Professional Experience

Applicants must demonstrate relevant experience in at least three of the following areas:

  • Emergency Risk Communication
  • Community Engagement
  • Social Science Research
  • Journalism / Media Communication
  • Health Diplomacy
  • Public Health

Key Skills Required

  • Strong expertise in public health programs, particularly risk communication.
  • Ability to produce and disseminate multimedia communication materials.
  • Excellent presentation, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to work in multicultural environments under tight deadlines.
  • Adaptability, resilience, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
